Southern Australia
South Australia is a state in the south central part of Australia. South Australia
covers some of the most arid parts of Australia. With a total land area of 983,482 square kilometres (379,725 sq mi),
South Australia is the fourth-largest of Australia's states and territories. South Australia
has a total of 1.7 million people, and the regions population is the most highly centralised of any state in Australia, with more than 75 percent of South Australians living in the capital, Adelaide, or its environs. Other population centres in the state are relatively small.

South Australia shares borders with all of the other mainland states, and with the Northern Territory; it is bordered to the west by
Western
Australia, to the north by the Northern
Territory, to the north-east by Queensland, to the east by
New South
Wales, to the south-east by Victoria, and to the south by the Great Australian
Bey. The state comprises less than 8 percent of the Australian population and ranks fifth in population among the six states and two territories. The majority of its people reside in
Adelaide. Most of the remainder are settled in fertile areas along the south-eastern coast and River Murray.
Adelaide is the capital city of South Australia and is situated north of the Fleurieu Peninsula on the Adelaide Plains between the Gulf
St Vincent and the low lying Mount Lofty Ranges which surround this beautiful city. Adelaide is a well planned city surrounded by a ring of parks know as the Adelaide Parklands, the River Torrens
finds its way through the city with the, Adelaide Zoo and University of Adelaide all lining its banks. Kangaroo Island
As with the rest of the continent, South Australia had been long occupied by
Aboriginal
peoples, who were organised into numerous tribes and languages. The first British settlement to be established was Kingscote, Kangaroo Island, before Adelaide was founded in 1836.
Flinders Ranges
The rugged, weathered peaks and rocky gorges of the
Flinders Ranges in Outback South Australia form some of the most dramatic and beautiful landscapes in the country. It's a place rich in Aboriginal history and home to a vast array of wildlife. Following the scenic roads, 4WD tracks and walking trails that crisscross this wild countryside will take you on a remarkable adventure.

The Fleurieu Wine zone
Fleurieu zone is a wine zone located south of Adelaide in
Fleurieu Peninsula South Australia.
Fleurieu Wine zone extends from Kangaroo Island in the west as far north as Flagstaff Hill on the west side of the Mount Lofty Ranges and to as far north as Langhorne Creek on the east side of the Mount Lofty Ranges.
Far North
The region is both the largest and also the least populated of the state. The Far North is also known as the Arid Lands of South Australia as much of the region is desert.
Deserts

The deserts in the north east are the Simpson Desert, Tirari Desert, Painted Desert and the Pedirka Desert. To the north and north west the Great Victoria Desert predominates the landscape.
