Visit Grenaa
furthest out in Jutland, Denmark nose tip is Grenaa with the Kattegat as a neighbor in
Norddjurs. The municipality also includes the island of Anholt. Grenaa is a
active commercial center with several supermarkets and many specialty shops.
Grenaa
is a popular city in Djurslands /Provence?s. The city has four pedestrian streets around
Square, and the attractions are Kattegatcentret, Djurslands Museum
and Danish Fishing Museum.
The Urban
The City
contains a string of beautiful half-timbered houses, which can be experienced more
places in the city. Nederstræde contains several good examples of these
buildings.
The town hall Built in
Classical style in 1805 in the town square. Here are three sculptures
Frederik 7 (HV Bissen, 1868), Søren Kanne (John Mountain, 1949) -
Søren Kanne was the savior in a shipwreck in 1835 he rode with life
that effort into the sea on his horses and rescued sailors in the country - and
Grenaa girl (Carl Otto Johansen, 1955).
The old Mayor farm
from 1768 contains a plaque for the Nobel laureate and physiologist August
Krogh, who was born here in 1874 and was recognized for its basic
studies on kapillarnettet.
Museum in Soendergade 1 consists of two museums, Jutland Museum Danish Fisheries Museum
which have common admission and opening hours. They are housed in one of the beautiful
old yellow half-timbered farmhouses with gallery from the beginning of
1700s.
History
since the Stone Age
lived fishermen and hunters along the coast. In the Middle Ages was a minor
urban communities of fishermen and traders, which gradually grew, and the city got
status as a market town in 1445.
In 1812 began
construction of the port, which was subsequently extended several times. The harbor city

Grenaa Church
The single nave Gothic church of medieval bricks was built around 1400 and rebuilt after a fire in 1649 West Tower ,
vestry and porch are from the late Middle Ages. The church contains a
altar from 1619 with a painting (1852), a pulpit from 1650 and a
baptismal font from 1857, the two glass windows in the east wall is made of Jais Nielsen
in 1930 the church was thoroughly restored in 2001 and has become one of
the finest organs as well as a very recognized chimes with
21 bronze bells (1648).
Jutland Museum
Jutland
Museum is a local history museum of antiquities in stone, bronze, iron and
wood and coins, toys, tools, textiles and weapons. The museum is
Housed in a former merchant's house.
Danish Fisheries Museum
Museum is a cultural specialist museum about life in and around the inner Danish waters.
Kattegatcentret
Extremely
the water's edge at Grenaa harbor, this large aquarium which was
opened in 1993 and expanded in 1996 Kattegatcentret that now includes 6,000
m 2 , the Prince Henry as patron.
There
many hours for the whole family, who can see the fish and animals
from all corners of the world. Shoal of Fish off the Danish coast, crabs and
lobsters from the North Sea and especially sharks and rays from the tropical

shark tunnel under the aquarium. The Diving Bell can experience a
realistic (cinematic) illusion of a diving expedition into the
deep sea.
Natural
watercourse stream Grenåen come from the plains east of the city, runs through Grenaa and terminating at the marina. Right
outside Grenaa begins nature with 500 acres of woodland, heathland and moorland. In
Middle Ages, Grenaa by the inlet of the now dried Kolindsund which
was once the largest freshwater area in Denmark. The area is marsh and
lakes and is an important habitat for birds, frogs and insects.
There is an extensive network of paths for joggers, walkers, cyclists and horse riders.
