Fredensborg Palace
Fredensborg Palace was built as a hunting lodge for King Frederik 4 and often serve as the setting for major events in the Royal Family. The royal couple are using the castle in spring and autumn.
Fredensborg Palace was built as a hunting lodge for King Frederik 4 by architect J. C. Krieger . Construction began in , 1719. The main building was inaugurated in 1722 and the church in the 1726th It was rebuilt and enlarged in the Christian 6 , Frederick 5 and Queen Juliane Marie of architects Nicolai Eigtved , L. de Thurah and CF Harsdorff .
After Queen Juliane Marie's death in 1796 the castle was rarely used. First of Christian 9 and Queen Louise Palace became the setting for the royal family's life for long periods - when total " in-law" in the summer of their children and in-laws , who represented several of Europe's royal and princely houses , at Fredensborg Palace. Today Royal Family uses the palace for three months in the spring and three months in the autumn.
The castle often serve as the setting for major events in the royal family. Here observed among other wedding parties, silver wedding celebrations and birthday parties. Receives Heads of State from around the world on an official visit here and return the other ambassadors their credentials to the Queen. By state visit is a tradition that the head of state visitors with a diamond write their names in one of the palace Windows .
The Queen has maintained the old tradition that the chapel is made available to congregations in Asminderød - Grønholt parishes, and therefore held that public worship in church almost every Sunday.
The castle garden of about 120 hectares . Originally brought by J. C. Krieger . It was reorganized by N. Jardin in the 1760s and has since changed in accordance with changing times flavor. Nowadays essential features of the original having been restored.
Most of the sculptures found in the garden, done by the neoclassical sculptor J. Wiedewelt . In " Nordmandsdalen " is 68 sandstone figures of Norwegian and Faroese farmers and fishermen. These figures were originally carved by the sculptor JG Basic . They are modeled and re-carved in the late 1900s.
In 1995 built an orangery linked to the castle herb garden. Storage for tender plants in winter, and flowers are grown here for the decoration of the castles.
Fredensborg Castle and chapel are open to the public through guided tours to the hallway.
Fredensborg Palace Gardens , herb garden and orangery is open to the public from hallway. Fredensborg Palace Gardens - including Nordmandsdalen - is open to the public with no admission year round , day and night.
